Review of Anonymous (2011) by Valerie P — 29 Nov 2012
If I had anything to do with the making of this film, I indeed would wish to remain anonymous, as it just can't be good for one's career.
This venture into a fantasy concept of Shakespeare and the Elizabethan court was ill-conceived and poorly executed. I was intrigued to watch the film, having sometimes enjoyed these stories that say "what if" about our history. I was willing to go along with this concept that Shakespeare had not penned his own work, for the sake of the tale, and yet it became much more farcical than that.
Shakespeare was portrayed as a complete and utter twat, the script is B-movie material at best, and I actually struggled to watch it in parts.
The resounding question I keep asking myself is "Why, Roland Emmerich? Why?".
