Review of Anon (2018) by Nikki O — 05 Dec 2018
We turned the movie off at the third (fourth? tenth??) ridiculous soft-porn sex scene. The interesting concept just didnï¿ 1/2(TM)t make suffering through this crap worthwhile. Donï¿ 1/2(TM)t get me wrong, we have nothing against nudity or a tasteful sex scene; but the scenes in this movie are cold, boring, cheap and mechanical.
Thereï¿ 1/2(TM)s no warmth or intimacy in the act ï¿ 1/2" no feeling whatsoever. Itï¿ 1/2(TM)s just sad and empty. Perhaps itï¿ 1/2(TM)s meant to reflect the pornification of modern sexual ï¿ 1/2relationshipsï¿ 1/2Â?, or maybe itï¿ 1/2(TM)s just that Mr.
Niccol himself watches too much porn and thinks everyone else is as desensitized and withered inside as he is. We really wonder what happened to him: three of his previous movies are favorites of ours, and all three share a deep human warmth and emotional undercurrent, even though at times it is subtle and restrained.
ï¿ 1/2Anonï¿ 1/2Â? seems like it was made by a different person entirely.
