Review of Anomalisa (2015) by Will W — 14 Feb 2016
1) The trailer was absurdly misleading. This movie is a about a sad man who is a jerk.
2) You get two stars because the puppetry was amazing.
Beyond that, it's a mix of poorly executed BoJack Horseman imitation without jokes and puppets apologizing to each other for being frail. There was not much in the way of plot, and what there was of plot was discontinuous. I don't mean out-of-sequence; it was non sequitur. Any third of the movie could be cut out and nothing about the film as a whole would be lost. This includes the seemingly lazy exposition, weird sex scene, and whatever was supposed to happening in the basement - that made now sense.
I was very disappointed.
