In Anomalisa, Charlie Kaufman adapts his original radio play to the big screen using stop-motion animation & 3D printed puppets to tell an unique & haunting story of alienation & loss of self identity. Anomalisa is set in Cincinnati in 2005. Self-help author Michael Stone (voiced by David Thewlis) is in town to give a motivation talk at a customer service conference. Although he stresses identification with the customer at the personal level, Michael is finding himself increasingly alienated from everyone around him. In his on-going mundane verbal interactions, everyone, quite literally (as they are all voiced by Tom Noonan,) sounds the same until Michael encounters Lisa (Jennifer Jason Leigh.) He quickly falls in love with her & plots an escape from the relentless routine of his life. Just as in some of his other films; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Adaptation & Being John Malkovich, Kaufman takes the viewer into the mind of the main character & his struggle with the shifting perceptions of reality. The voice work by the actors was solid, quite convincing. This is an animated film for adults. SEE THIS FILM.
