Review of Anomalisa (2015) by Connor M — 01 Jun 2017
I am a big fan of animation, and I find stop-motion animation to be the most impressive in my eyes. When I saw that a well-received adult stop-motion film was out, I was intrigued. The idea was interesting, and the men behind it have delivered in the past, so I was interested to see what the final product would end up looking like.
What we get is a unique look at what Michael views everyone as until he meets a woman that changes what he sees everyone as. This is a very smart and serious drama following a man that is struggling with his family and who he is.
The writing is smart, and the metaphorical undertones of some aspects are quite brilliant. I thought the first two acts of the film were fantastic, but I was a little let down on how the movie unfolded.
In the end, this is a wonderful adventure and narrative that many people could relate to.
