Review of Anomalisa (2015) by Steven S — 19 Mar 2016
After hearing all the award buzz that this film has gotten I decided to go and give this one a shot and much to my surprise, I actually was able to relate to this movie for so much. Anomalisa tells the story of a man named Michael, a successful self help author who has everything that a wealthy man would want, but he can't wrap his arms around it all.
He has everything but feels that he has nothing and has this inability to connect with everyone else around him. Until he meets an insecure woman named Lisa, and discovers her true beauty and helps her through her struggles.
What makes me relate to this movie so much, is because to me, I felt like I was in Michael's shoes. Me being someone who has Asperger's Syndrome, I too have an inability to connect with everyone around me and I too feel that even if I do have everything I ever wanted, I don't feel that I can wrap my arms around it all.
With all that said plus a very engaging and relatable story, fantastic stop-motion animation that revolutionizes many of today's animated films, Anomalisa is one of the most inspiring and relatable animated films to ever be made.
Even if it doesn't win the Oscar or the Annie Award, I will still consider this as one of the BEST animated films I've ever seen. And I can't wait to get this on Blu-Ray!!
