Review of Anomalisa (2015) by Walter P — 08 Aug 2016
This is a boring and slow paced stop-action movie that should have been edited to a 20 min quirky short. Lonely mid-life crisis guy meets shy frumpy groupie. Not much to like about the movie. It was not stimulating, not funny, not thought provoking, not edgy, not much to it.
Unrelatable characters were hesitant, depressed, anxious, uninvolved, impatient, exasperated, unconfident, pathetic - not much to like about them. My impression was that many voices sounded alike. For example, when he called and spoke to his wife I thought the person on the other end sounded a lot like the room service guy he with whom he just spoke to a minute before.
A bland hotel environment with HVAC droning background (or was that the tepid piano soundtrack?); anyway, it added to the humdrum existence of these uninspired characters. During the hotel sex scene with Anomolisa he apologized at least three times to her.
Ok, it was funny when the hotel room phone had five room service button with food symbols (hamburger, plate fork knife, whole roasted chicken, person carrying a covered plate, and a turkey leg with a bite taken out) that understandably confused him.
So it earned one star. I do not recommend it - skip it!
