Review of Annihilation (2018) by Sinead K — 16 Mar 2018

I can certainly see why this film is so divisive but for my own part I really liked it and I think it's a shame that I couldn't have enjoyed it in the cinema. It's visually stunning, brilliantly acted and a story that follows its own arc and not conventions.

The story really pulled me in, it was very thought provoking, clever, tense and I really wasn't sure where exactly it would go next which is refreshing to say. The musical score also helps add to the tension.

It is slow paced but it's what the movie needed to slowly unfold the mystery and I didn't feel myself get bored for one moment. The ending is ambiguous and leaves unanswered questions but I think that only adds to the intrigue and fits the overall tone of the film.

I won't proclaim this as a masterpiece but it is an amazing film and if Ex Machina was a hit with you, then I'm sure there's a good chance that you may like this too.
