Review of Annihilation (2018) by Anthony K — 08 Apr 2018
I was disappointed in Annihilation, if I'm perfectly honest. Much of the film felt incomprehensible until I looked up a plot synopsis later on (which actually made it significantly more interesting than the way the story played out in the film), and aside from a couple of fantastically tense sequences (the Blind Bear Monster scene in particular) it was exceptionally.
...boring. Even Natalie Portman was kinda flat in the film, and I am borderline in love with that woman, so that should tell you something. It's just not memorable in the same way as Ex Machina, nor do I think it had much to actually say.
Some reallllly bad CG effects, too. Woof.
