Review of Annihilation (2018) by Flexedacorn — 02 Mar 2018
As soon as I saw this movie was being adapted by Alex Garland, I knew it was a must see for me. I loved the slow burn and unique feeling of Ex Machina and was hoping for a similar feel. In anticipation for the movie I picked up the first book of the Southern Reach trilogy to read beforehand.
Let me just say, I loved the movie and the book for two different reasons. Both book and film adaptation had amazing visuals that are a must read and/or see. I felt the movie was more action oriented whereas the book was a very ambiguous slow burn thriller.
I wouldn’t say the movie was a faithful adaptation, but I found Alex Garlands take on the story to be easier to digest then its source material. There is a particular seen at the end of the movie that will probably go down as one of the top sci-fi scenes of all time.
If you are looking for an interesting original sci fi movie, this is your film.
