Review of Annihilation (2018) by Compi24 — 27 Feb 2018
Like writer/director Alex Garland's last effort, "Ex Machina," "Annihilation" -- for me at least -- is a rich, entertaining, and scientifically thought-provoking ride from beginning to.
. .about ten minutes from the end. And though this one's ending is definitely less of a buzzkill, there's still an overall sense of coldness and confusion that I can't seem to shake. So much of the film's first 90% feels so meticulously well thought-out and crafted.
Whether its from a visual, thematic, or character-based standpoint, the majority of this movie rings true. It's just the last sliver of the running time that adds so much, yet explains so little, ultimately rendering everything into one of the most frustrating additions to the sci-fi genre I've seen in recent memory.
