Review of Annie Hall (1977) by Kezia R — 25 Jun 2013
[CONTAIN SPOILER] One of the best romantic movie. Allen brought a beautiful, yet realistic story about a couple. Annie and Alvy were, are, and will always be more tragic than Rose and Jack. Their relationship was perfect, because they ended their relationship. The end of their relationship is what makes the movie so human, so modern and sophisticated.
I don't really get the humor, maybe because I'm not an American...I think it's wit, not humor. Maybe this is one of the most unromantic romantic movie (besides The Remains of the Day).
It's maybe quite weird, but I love the cinematography, if you re-watch that movie again, make sure you pay attention to the cinematography. And I'm glad that Woody Allen tried some new things that maybe most of the directors at that time didn't try. And Allen really communicated with his audiences. This is quite important, because, unless Allen narrated, or I say monologue, the audiences wouldn't understand Alvy's feeling. Annie Hall has it's own romance. Like how Alvy and Annie confessed their feelings, how Alvy proposed Annie, I think it's romantic. It's a shame that some of the audiences don't get the romantic parts in Annie Hall.
The ending of Annie Hall is just beautiful, with Diane Keaton sang "Seems like old times", and some flashbacks of Alvy and Annie's relationship, it's just beautiful. 10/10.
