A brave statement back then (relationships are designed to fail but we "need the eggs") seems twice as bold today. The original title was "Anhedonia" which means the inability to feel pleasure. It actually is a more accurate title. The laughs are huge which is good because the remainder induces squirms as these smart, charming New Yorkers parlay their social ineptitude upon each other. And even though young Alvy thought he was an "asshole," Joey Nickels (that's JOEY FIVE CENTS, get it?!) is the only one who seems to be truly happy in life.
