Review of Annie Get Your Gun (1950) by Tom M — 31 Jan 2010
Wow, there's so much wrong with this movie. The Indian stuff is bad, the message that a woman has to subsume herself to her mate in order for their relationship to work perhaps even worse. But worst of all is that the wonderful Betty Hutton just isn't right for the part.
She's one of the great screwball stars, but the movie's not screwball so too much of her acting reads over-the-top. She's still charming but she's much better in lesser, but more appropriate, vehicles like Perils of Pauline.
Great musical numbers help.
