Review of Annie: A Royal Adventure (1995) by Michael P — 08 Oct 2012
A "kind of" sequel to the musical "Annie" - they sing "Tomorrow," but it's the only song, and only at the end - this film is clearly aimed squarely at the kids, so there's not much for adults to enjoy.
That said, though, the filmmakers did enough research to pay some nice nods to the original comic strip material, from the (mild) sci-fi element of Professor Eon and his Eonite (Professor Eon played by none other than Ian "Star Wars' Emperor Palpatine" McDiarmid!), to the not insignificant fact that Annie, in the comics, is getting into - and out of - all kinds of scrapes.
With a few song-and-dance numbers and a little more attention to plot, this could've been a quite solid follow-up to the stage show. As it is, it was fun enough to watch once - but likely only once.
