Review of Annie (1982) by Naomi G — 18 Dec 2010
The sun'll come out..tomorow...bet your bottom dollar that tomorow...they'll be sun..
Who doesn't love musicals? For me they seem to be split sharply into categories- the classic Mary Poppins/ Sound of Music musicals cheery numbers, The Grease/ Fame/Chicago/West Side Story type shindigs and the Les Mis/ Phantom of the Opera ones. I'm not entirely sure wether Annie would fit in. Not to say it's a stand-alone category, but that I feel it tries to be a classic, but faults with elements of the more modern-set ones, probably due to the fact it was filmed in the early 80's.
Still, I digress. The songs were pretty catchy, and the kids were really talented. I think my favourite scene was the "Hard Knock Life," it definitely got me doing continuous cartwheels te summer I first saw it as a kid.
Aileen Quinn showed to be really talented in this. the only real issue I had was the fact that she was a very irritating character and didnt really have cherry locks. Carol Burnett played Miss Hannigan, the whacky cruel head of the orphanage. I thought she was deliciously comical, even as a kid.
All in all not a half bad movie, but I still feel it lacks in some areas.
