Review of Annapolis (2006) by Lesster D — 26 Jan 2012
"Some of the best fighters in the world are in the Naval Brigade Championships.".
Its quite an upbeat film, but ends up trying just a little too hard to be something that it's not, for instance, this film is not even close to say "Rocky" or "Raging Bull" but it's still got a eater inspiration message that it tries to get across. Annapolis was directed by Justin Lin (The Fast And The Furious remake, Fast Five) and he did a fairly decent job, sure it's flawed but it's packed with some great boxing cinematography and well-shot action sequences. There are some scenes that just come off a bit tacky, but still it kept me watching until the credit roll.
James Franco and Tyrese Gibson do well throughout, they have however, been much, much better. the supporting acts are ok, but there's nothing too special here, but still, it's worth a look.
