Review of Annabelle: Creation (2017) by Hanna C — 15 Sep 2017
Annabelle: Creation has a very chilling atmosphere and strong performances by its young cast, however, besides some basic thrills, the film recycles scary-movie tropes that are a staple of modern horror, while reusing many of the elements that made The Conjuring films so good, but to a lesser degree.
You will see the sheet moving tactic, the "steal your soul" motive and the doors opening and closing. Many of these elements are effective on their own, had they not been so prominent in the last ten haunted house films.
The film is entertaining to be sure, but gets wholly ridiculous in its final ten minutes. Rating: 59.
