Review of Annabelle: Creation (2017) by Jonas C — 14 Aug 2017

No surprises here, a typical summer horror flick that packs the general amount of jump-scares that you are used to seeing. Nothing is unique about it, but their is still an enjoyable time to be had if you go in the right way.

The film has one shocking moment near the beginning that sets the way for the rest of the film, and from then on you get the typical false scares leading up to the reveal of the entity trying to attack our main leads.

There is quite a bit of cheesy dialogue that takes you out of the moment and doesn't seem to fit with what is going on, it feels a bit forced. The characters also feel as if they are unreal and would not act appropriate in the situations they are put in.

This really bothered me and affected the rest of the film. Several scenes were obvious filler, and you could tell when the filmmakers were running low on material. These scenes had little to no impact on the rest of the film, only as ways to give the audience something to scream about for a few seconds.

Their is also no reason given to why some the the girls mistreat our leads and are friends with them 2 seconds later. However, many of the scares were smart and had some good build-up to go along with them, and the way that the end was tied into the beginning of "Annabelle" was brilliant.

Overall. a standard horror film that audiences will get the normal thrills out of.
