Review of Annabelle: Creation (2017) by Miss S — 28 Dec 2017
I did not like this film. It was disappointing, as the other Annabelle movies leading up to this one have been decent, this one however was a let down.
I found the film dragged out quite a bit, there was lots of small jump scares and situations that brought forwarth a horror connotation, but the story line was all over the place.
The movie began good, showing the bond between two girls from an orphanage. The demonic horror began not too long after the orphanage moved into this new house, and spooky things begin to happen. I found these very overdone. There is a well in this movie, which I found reminded me of the Ring, and the demon with the human like, long nails and fingers reminded me a lot of Insidious.
There's an elevator scene where the young girl boops the demons hands with a flashlight... I couldn't help but laugh. The same with the scene the young girl is sitting in a rocking chair, aiming a cork gun into the darkness. It's not meant to be funny, but the humour did come into play with this movie.
I didn't like the mix between the two stories. The couple living in the house had a whole story of their own, with a child passing away and an ill mother in bed. I think it would have been better if that story wasn't so involved with the main plot. I understand it was about how the Annabelle doll became haunted originally, but it took nearly to the very end of the film for that doll to make an appearance.
After the jump scares, and the continuous, similar plot to other horror films, this movie was predictable, and quite disappointing.
