Review of Annabelle: Creation (2017) by Movie M — 20 Aug 2017

"Annabelle: Creation" is the prequel to Annabelle, and the 4th instalment in The Conjuring series. And I have to say that while this is easily the better out of the two Annabelle movies, it also comes close to beating out one of the best horror movies I've seen in my life, "The Conjuring".

I loved the story that this movie gave us, a lot of it only makes sense if you've seen the entire Conjuring series, which I have, but even then, the backstory to the creepy Annabelle doll gave me chills.

There were some scenes that I found to be a little cheesy, especially those where you see the demon in plain sight. In my opinion, the less you see in a horror movie, the more terrifying it is, and in the scenes where they just blatantly show the demonic creatures, sure it makes for a good jump scare, but it doesn't leave you with anything mentally, and you just move on from it.

There were some scenes in this movie, one in particular when Talitha Bateman (Janice) enters the little girl's room, that stuck with me the entire movie, and still has me thinking about it and shuddering.

The acting was pretty good for a horror movie, which usually is prone to having cheesy actors, but I thought that Lulu Wilson (Linda) really shone in this movie, along with Talitha Bateman (Janice). They had their own little side-story, and they had really good chemistry throughout the movie.

There are going to be people that say "Annabelle: Creation" wasn't that deep, and that it was only all about jump scares and didn't leave any marks psychologically, which may be a little true, but in my opinion "Annabelle: Creation" was one of the best horror movies I've seen in a while, and is definitely worth watching.
