Review of Annabelle (2014) by Kevin R — 04 Nov 2014
I like your dolls...
A young couple and their child have a horrific event happen where some cultists invade their house. Ever since the invasion, strange things start happen around them that endangers their child. Can the couple save themselves and their family or will an evil spirit, unlocked by the cult, destroy them and everything they've built?
"She fits right in.".
John Leonetti, director of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Butterfly Effect 2, and episodes of Sons of Thunder and Providence, delivers Annabelle. The storyline for this film is pretty mediocre but the film contains great special effects that are definitely intense. The horror elements are well done and the acting is better than average. The cast includes Annabelle Wallis, Ward Horton, Tony Amendola, Alfre Woodard, and Kerry O'Malley.
"You're covered in blood!".
"It's not mine.".
We watched this in theatres a couple weeks ago because we loved the first Conjuring film (and the Warrens as a hidden storyline). I will say this is a huge step down from the Conjuring, but was interesting and worth following. There is one more college setting storyline for Annabelle that hopefully comes next and connects the final pieces from Annabelle to The Conjuring that I will definitely see. This is an above average horror movie that won't stand out in the genre.
"You survived. You don't come out of something like this weaker.".
Grade: C+.
