Review of Annabelle (2014) by Sanchayan S — 02 Jan 2015
With The Conjuring being out and thinking that it's terrifying after watching it, I was really looking forward to Annabelle. What got me skeptical however, is that James Wan is not directing it and is just the producer, and there is a different writer for it.
Sadly, if James Wan directed it and the writers from The Conjuring wrote this, it would've been better off that way. If you think that Annabelle is going to be like Chucky, I thought it was too, but we were wrong.
The acting could've been better, but the characters are a little better that I might remember them, especially the main girl's husband which despite the fact that the actor was not that great, I really find it refreshing that the character just believes her.
He never see what's going on, but he just believes her, and I just find it unintentionally funny. The movie reminds me of other films and it doesn't feel like its own film. It does take a bit of different turns here and there, but wasn't enough for it.
The scares are sometimes effective, like the elevator scene for example, and there's some that didn't get a jolt out of me. Despite it being more less of a budget than The Conjuring, Annabelle was just as well-made as The Conjuring.
It didn't made me mad at the film, I just felt disappointed that it could've been better and it was not even close as good as The Conjuring.
