Review of Anna Karenina (2012) by Dan H — 27 Jan 2013
The film is a true spectacle to watch, absolutely stunning and unlike anything you have ever seen....at least, the parts that take place in the theater are. The story is very muddied and hard to really follow and understand what's going on.
The whole film is a metaphor and people and places represent different things, so it's hard to keep up at times. If more time were spent in the theater that would have been enough to keep me invested, but the film leaves this setting and enters the real world for most of the 2nd half.
...in fact the film probably spends more time in the real world than it does in the theater. While the story is too confusing to really invest yourself in it, the production values and what is done in the theater is fantastic, different and unique enough for me to still recommend this cool little flick.
