The movie was shot in a very interesting blend of stage-like scenes and traditional location filming. It is well acted, and somewhat densely compact considering Tolstoy's work. However I think that the film will only hit the mark squarely with huge Tolstoy fans and those that love period theater.
The balance of the remaining audience may lose interest I'm afraid.
