Review of Anna Karenina (2012) by Brady S — 26 Mar 2013
Just watched Anna Karenina. I didn't think I'd like it, but I really thought it was a charming and beautiful film. It has gorgeous cinematography, very decadent costumes (it won the Oscar for that), a beautiful original score and excellent production design, that takes you on a ride from a stage play into an open field, through a fantasy and back to reality.
A movie about love, lust, jealousy, adultery, hate, forgiveness and death. Keira Knightley and Jude Law are great along with a whole host of other colorful characters and acting performances. The directing is beautifully done to weave all of the different symbolistic feelings and ideas together by Joe Wright (Hanna, Atonement).
In a year with a handful of excellent, epic films that were worthy of their awards, don't miss this one because it may get lost in the cracks and crevices. 85/100 - Brady A. Schwartz.
