Haven't read the book yet (on my TBR pile), but unlike others who were put off by the theatrical touches, I actually enjoyed watching as the scenes, costumes, and backdrops change, with the actors seamlessly moving from background to foreground.
Can't speak to the accuracy of the translation from book to the screen.
