Review of Anna Karenina (2012) by Carlos T — 21 Feb 2014

The film itself is about half an hour overlong but it doesnt distract from the fact that this is a classic story which is well told and acted. Keira Knightly plays the lead role exceptionally well from her first appearance to her character's ultimate demise.

The story is set in imperial Russia and the design of costumes were very impressive! The detail shown here created the atmosphere of Moscow's winter and it's aristocracy and class. Personally, I think this is one of the highlights - the costumes.

However, the costumes don't distract from how the script was rather un impressive by contrast to the magnificent costumes. There are no specific or memorable quotes from this film which is a shame as it lasted so long. The theme of the quest for love and happiness is dealt with fairly well as Knightly shows her different colours as a confident young woman to an unhappy, confused one.

The adaptation of this classic story is done well but you would expect more from such an acclaimed actress and director. One thing I wouldve liked to see more of is the character, Dolly as there seems to be a lot to be said but wasn't. Overall, this is fairly enjoyable movie but a little underwhelming.
