Review of Anna and the Apocalypse (2018) by Lzephaniah — 01 Dec 2018
I really enjoyed this film. It's dark, frequently funny (although rarely side-splitting) and generally entertaining. The songs are surprisingly catchy. Acting is great throughout, even if the film lurches violently at times between light-hearted and sombre.
Production is very polished considering the (presumably) low budget. Admittedly there's nothing truly groundbreaking here: this is a film which plays on the clichés and pays homage to many of its influences (like Shaun of the Dead).
But it does what it sets out to do well, and if you go expecting something imperfect but fun then it's well worth a watch and I happily recommend it.
