Review of Animals United (2010) by Graham D — 17 Jun 2011
The Germans have a different style and philosophy on animals, and this animation brings out the contrast with big budget hollywood cartoons from the likes of Disney and Pixar. Proportions are more naturalistic, no exaggerrated shapes and limbs like Madagascar for eg.
The dialog and thoughts of the animals themselves are also more caricature and stereotypical reflecting the charactersitics of the species in question. While not as smooth or witty as an American production, the more realistic depiction of beasts is refreshing.
However, the strong environmental message and montage near the end felt quite out of place and is probably too deep for kids.
