Review of Animal Kingdom (2010) by Sarah O — 19 Jul 2011

I think I might have missed some key elements to this movie because of the actors' Australian accents. Would definitely recommend watching with the subtitles "on". I had a problem feeling empathy for any of the cold-blooded characters. I could not even warm to the outsider cousin/nephew because of the opening scene.

I loved the masterful scene of suspense, though, where the kid is making a "getaway" with his girlfriend's father. Made me gasp. Otherwise, a stark, sparse portrayal of a crime family in decline. The pacing kind of reminded me of the movie "The Square.".
