Australian director David Michod's feature debut paints a disturbing portrait of a crime family. The scenario focuses on 17-year-old Josh, who's a newcomer to the family business and over time acquires on-the-job training.
Jacki Weaver is chillingly good as the matriarch of the family. One quibble: the nihilistic undertone tends to negate the story's compass.
