Review of Animal Kingdom (2010) by Michael J — 28 Sep 2011
This grimly compelling tale pits the strong vs. the weak, then sits back and watches evolution. The ensemble cast acting out this zoomorphic tragedy are all superb, Grandma Smurf especially gives chills as she reveals her layers like a cadavers epidermis.
The direction is perfectly downbeat, gilded with stylish horror flourishes whenever a kill is afoot. Watch and experience, but have a Disney film on standby for subsequent depression reversal ("The Lion King" would do nicely).
