Review of Animal Kingdom (2010) by Mike G — 07 Apr 2011
When 17 year old Joshua's Mum dies of a heroin overdose, he goes to live with his Gran and her 4 sons and enters a scary world of armed robbery and gun fights. Each of the brothers is fighting with their own demons, as well as the police.
The simple Joshua has to quickly grow up and makes some stark choices which effects everyone in the family, overseen by the increasingly sinister Gran, excellently played by Jacki Weaver. The film manages to maintain a level of threat throughout thanks to excellent performances, especially from Guy Pearce as the softly softly cop and by newcomer James Frecheville as the "innocent" Joshua.
Well worth the accolades......
