Review of Animal Kingdom (2010) by Alfonsas S — 29 Nov 2011
It's tough be be part of a crime family. Especially when you were not raised with them, to suddenly be dragged into a dangerous and violent world. But a teenage kid in Melbourne is suddenly taken in by his grandmother and uncles after his mothers' passing, and introduced into a world of bloody vengeance.
David Michod's first full length is similar in tone to Goodfellas or other family gangster films, takes it to the neighborhoods of Melbourne and plays it straight to the point. Scary thing is, this is no big syndicate family, this is just another momma and her boys in the usual neighborhood.
That makes it much scarier and more relate-able.
