Review of Animal Farm (1954) by Nathan C — 04 Jun 2010
Kinda dumb and full of unintentional humor (lol Benjamin crying), and not really aided by some lackluster 2D animation and the fact that the animated characters look unintentionally sinister. Also, it's not really that faithful, cutting out and altering characters and not developing them as much as the book did, whitewashing the themes, and changing things up (Boxer got murdered for profit, dammit, not crushed by a block!).
I guess it would've been powerful back in its day, but today, it lacks that power. The mood is there, most prevalent in the beginning, and having somewhat of an effective score. It does make a good criticism of Stalinism/Capitalism, but not good enough.
