Review of Animal Crackers (1930) by Andrew B — 01 Apr 2010
On the upswing of the Marx Brothers Bell Curve, Animal Crackers contains some classic moments. But whenever the brothers aren't on screen, which happens way too often for my tastes, the movie sags.
Technical problems also plague the set. Amateurish miking habits from the early days of sound films (this is still 1930) ensure some dialogue gets muted and most footsteps get amplified. But the jokes are mostly there and the Brothers are funny as always.
But the next few films are much better.
