Review of Angels with Dirty Faces (1938) by Chris T — 11 Jan 2007
The Fog ? 7.0.
- Seems to lack an extra element to make it stand out from the run of the mill horror film, was well done, eerie yet it was pretty plain and never grew above its premise.
Close-Up ? 9.5.
- The camera wonders just once?as a bottle rolls down a street.
Angels with Dirty Faces ? 8.5.
Unforgiven ? 8.5.
- Each character/group is a villain and at the same time a sympathetic character, there is no true villain nor is there a true heroin. Each one has flaws that make them despicable yet each has positives in their views.
The Phantom of Liberty ? 9.5.
- Uses absurdities to challenge standards and naturally accepted actions.
- Moves seamlessly from one story to another, moving flawlessly within time and space.
- Challenges a broad range of ideas; art, bowl movements, smoking, doctors, kidnappings, parenting, military, art, history, food, religion, psychoanalysis, and many many more ideas.
