Review of Angels Crest (2011) by Arleen S — 05 Dec 2011
This small town story centres around the disappearance of three year old Nate and upon who the blame should ultimately be attached to. The performances are extremely strong from all involved including the kids.
The main problem and the only reason 'Angels Crest' is not a five star film is that there seems to be so much undeveloped characterisation, so many loose ends seemingly not tied up to the satisfaction of the viewer and at one hour and a half it feels as though there was clear room to enhance upon certain angles that the film seems to be taking.
These are minor gripes though and it's certainly possible to interpret certain things yourself from things that are said and suggested. Thomas Dekker and Lynn Collins are both excellent as the dysfunctional (for very different reasons) seperated parents of Nate and Piven gives an expected reliable turn as the lawyer with clear demons from his own past.
It's sad and it's touching but I didn't find it depressing as it keeps a steady pace throughout. The film throws up alot of moral issues that can be argued either way until it's shocking albeit fairly predictable finale.
