Review of Angel Heart (1987) by Thomas S — 05 Aug 2010
A profoundly disturbing horror masterpiece. Brilliantly performed by Rourke and company. Direction by Alan Parker is superb, giving the film a thick atmosphere of dread that almost too effectively gets under your skin.
It's not an easy film to watch; it's terrifying and emotionally devastating, and it's what a true horror film should be. (Kudos has to go to Rourke for giving the role his all despite not being enthralled with the overall project.
His anguished cry near the end is absolutely crushing.).
