Review of Angel Heart (1987) by Ricardo O — 02 Dec 2010
Angel Heart is seemingly basic noir mystery with horror thrown in that makes it a very original film. Pretty cool movie as it works as a detective film with a horrific conclusion. Robert De Niro as Louis Cyphere aka Lucifer is creepy as hell and Mickey Rourke does an excellent job at the height of his brief time as a movie star.
Unfortunately I viewed a televised version of this so I wasn't able to see what all the ruckus is about the steamy sex scene between Rourke and the sizzling Lisa Bonet. There are many clues throughout the movie of what the conclusion reveals about the private detective's past but for a first time viewer, you can't really predict what is going to happen.
It's definitely a movie worth watching. A second viewing may deepen one's appreciation for it. 8/10.
