Review of Angel Heart (1987) by Brian R — 10 Nov 2011
Alan Parker's "Angel Heart" is a supernatural picture with film noir elements. It tells the story of a gumshoe private eye named Harry Angel(I'm sorry but no other movie private eye can top Harry Moseby)who meets a dark man named Louis Cypher(Robert DeNiro).
Cypher wants Angel to track down a man named Johnny Favourite. Angel's case takes him down to New Orleans but things doesn't get any smoother as he witnesses evil voodoo and a case of bad spirits in the air bringing him to paranoia. Angel then meets an attractive woman named Epiphany Proudfoot(Lisa Bonet)and the two start to share an unusual connection.
"Angel Heart" has a unique twist and it is handled well during the last minutes of the picture but I was bored by the main characters and the cheap scary special effects that was suppose to leave me feeling all shiver like. "Angel Heart" just doesn't work for me.
