Review of Andaz Apna Apna (1994) by Nived N — 18 May 2010

When this movie released........It turned out to be a Box-office Flop...Even after 16 years, The mystery continues.

Currently we are going through ''Bad comedy'' phase....However, After'' JAANE BHI DO YAARON''...........ANDAZ APNA APNA has gain a cult status as an idyllic, smart comedy & no other films have ever crossed it yet.

It is a comic-cum-action-cum-performance oriented film molded perfectly. You will not get characters like Amar, Prem, Crime Master Gogo, Ram- Shyam Bajaj in any corner of world...These characters are unrealistic but portrayed so convincingly by the wonderful actors. The screenplay by RAJKUMAR SANTOSHI doesn't drag at all, it engages us from the opening sequence to the end credits.

There are so many scenes which brought genuine smile and laugh like scene having JUHI & GOVINDA, BOTH-AMAR PREM GETTING INTO RAVEENA'S HOUSE, TEJA'S PLANS GETTING FLOPPED HILARIOUSLY, THE CLIMAX IS THE BEST OF THE BEST where all the characters meet and create a riot.

The dialogues are idyllic....I still recite some of it even today like ''Circus ke retired bandar'', ''bandar key sir par tarbuj'' then CRIME MASTER GOGO's utter memorable dialogue ''MAIN HOON CRIME MASTER GOGO, AANKHEN NIKALKAR GOTI KHELUNGA GOTI...........MOGAMBO KA BHATIJA HOON, AAYA HOON KUCH TO LOOTKE JAAONGA'' and many more...It will take an entire day to describe it......

Performance is out-an-out crazy!! AAMIR KHAN & SALMAN KHAN were terrific as the two lazy and greedy dreamers...their camaraderie sparkles every moment when they bring the full house down.

RAVEENA TANDON & KARISHMA KAPOOR are no less..they make their presence feel in the expenditure dominated by male..they are equally funny. PARESH RAWAL is ''superb', both his character RAM BAJAJ & SHYAM BAJAJ are so rib-tickling. SHAHZZAD KHAN & VIJU KHOTE are endearing as Bhalla and Robert...............However the real show-stealer is SHAKTI KAPOOR as the CRIME MASTER GOGO......He is just outstanding in it.........I can't imagine any other actor playing this role so.

Maturely.

OVERALL, ANDAZ APNA APNA is the best comedy film to come out....The charm lies within the story and characters...DON'T MISS THIS FILM........IT'S PURE PACKAGE OF LAUGHTER AND GENUINE SWEETNESS. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!
