Review of And the Band Played On (1993) by Elana C — 06 Apr 2009
An incredible depiction of the history of AIDS is a must see for everyone (especially people who has friends and family with AIDS). This is NOT light hearted cinema, more harsh look at where the disease comes from. It begins with the first reported case of AIDS in 1977 and end in 1985, with statistics leading right up to 1994, so the film is a bit outdated but no matter, it gets I message across.
The cast is supperb, especially Mathew Modine, Glenn Heady and Ian McKellan and even the bit parts are portrayed by some great actors giving great performances... Richard Gere, Swoozie Kurtz and B.D. Wong gives emotionally charges performances!
A great movie!
