Review of And Soon the Darkness (2010) by Tony's F — 29 Apr 2011
Here we have a remake of a 1970's thriller with same name. Amber Heard, Karl Urban and Odette Yustman are the lead roles in this film but the movie itself dosent seem to lead or roll to anywhere. Heres the review on a pritty darn crap and boring Thriller/Horror.
Elle (Yustman) and Stephanie (Heard) are two best friends, and they have decided to go on a vacation to a beautiful village in Argentina in hope to party hard, get wasted, hook up with guys and chill out in the sun. The night they arrive to the village in Argentina they get a room and than make their way to the local bar, as the night goes on they drink more and more and Elle hooks up with a guy, but than they get into a scuffle and an argument with the guy so they head back to their room. The next day the two girls decide to go sight seeing at one of the beautiful waterfalls in Argentina, when they get there they both strip down into their bikinis and chill out in the sun for a bit. The two girls randomley have an argument with each other so Stephanie gets fed up and leaves Elle at the waterfalls by her self and tells her she will meet her back at the room. But Elle never goes back to the room, because she has been kidnapped!! RAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Karl Urban an Actor from New Zealand is in this movie, but he dosent really play a real roll in the film. I wish that they used him more and just didnt have him randomley turning up at times, him and Stephanie pritty much team up towards the end of the film tho as they both have lost a love one in the village. The Police dont want anything to do with the missing friend and Karl Urbans missing daughter so the two go out and try to find them.
This film is labeled as a thriller/Horror but it never delivers, there is never any suspense and there are never any freaky moments. The movie is called "And Soon the darkness" but the funny thing is that its pritty much always day time in the film when "Something happens". The acting is actually pritty decent tho from the main leads, Amber Heard is an actress that I have seen in a few movies over the last years and Ive just thought she was just there to look pretty, but she does prove on this film that she can play a decent dramatic roll, and for Karl Urban who was on Star Trek and Lord of the rings well yeah hes good on this film but the director or the writer dosent really give him anything to work with. When it comes down to Odette Yustman, well she plays a good roll at being sexy at all times no matter what situation she is in haha.
The Director does provide a few decent camera shots throughout the film so thats a plus to everything else that is crappy about the movie, showing us some beautiful Waterfalls and shots of the pretty land of Argentina, but we are not really here to be looking at pretty things, this is supposed to be a thriller/Horror so he should be focusing his camera on trying to scare us, or atleast try to set a horror like atmosphere.
When it comes down to it this is just a film full of pretty girls, stripping down to their underwear, parting hard and listening to their ipods while chilling out in the sun. I think the director of the film had a fun time spying on these girls through his camera lens, theres even a camera shot when the director seems to be watching them undressing while he is spying on them through the bushes, I wonder what he was really getting up to behind those bushes aye?
