An embarrassment all around.

Right from the title I was put in mind of "As Good As it Gets" (a far superior film), without knowing that it was scripted by that films co-writer, who plagiarizes himself shamelessly here. Within the first 5 minutes we know a woman and a nauseatingly adorable moppet from Central Casting will in due course melt the heart of Douglas' thoroughly unappealing character. (Didn't kicking a dog as shorthand for villainy go out sometime around 1930?).

How did Oren become the most successful real estate agent in CT with devices as lame as filling the houses he sells with photos of people of the same ethnicity as the potential buyers, and who other than a clueless screenwriter would come up with that gambit? (Andrus apparently knows as much about real estate as he does about drug dens, which keeps him from writing about neither.).

We're also treated to a standard issue dirty mouthed old broad, in the person of the wonderful Frances Sternhagen, who, with all her skill, is unable to make the character a real person.

And let's face it, Diane Keaton is a lousy vocalist, and has been since "Annie Hall." It is beyond willing suspension of disbelief that she headlines a swank supper club, even though more digital magic has been applied to her vocals than anyone's since Lucy attempted the score for "Mame" 40 years ago.

To be fair, there's one hell of an opening shot, that switches seamlessly from a plane or chopper shot to a crane that had me wondering how they pulled it off. But when the most interesting thing in your film is a shot under the opening credits, your movie is a bust.
