Review of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) by Mimi S — 02 Jan 2014
Whilst Anchorman has a few funny moments, it's mostly stupidity which you can't really take seriously. Ron Burgundy may be one of the most famous and most beloved movie characters, but I found him highly unlikeable and highly idiotic. The film is about a self-centred and egotistical news reporter Ron Burgundy who is greatly admired and respected and is the most watched anchorman on TV. His fellow colleagues idolize him and see him as their leader. However Ron's status is challenged when fiesty and ambitious Veronica Corningstone (played by Christina Applegate)joins the news team. Veronica wants equality in the news room in a sexist time when women weren't taken seriously in the male dominated newsroom. Ron doesn't take to this very well needless to say and becomes more intimidated and embarrassed as Veronica starts to make changes in the newsroom.
I found this film too silly and pathetic; I've never been a fan of Will Ferrell anyway, I've never found him funny. There's too much slapstick which just makes the film more tacky. This film wont appeal to an audience with mature tastes. This film is just too immature, boorish and sexist. I just associate the film with immature teenage boys. The only thing I liked about this film was Baxter the dog.
Grade: D.
