Review of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013) by Brian S — 23 Jan 2015
It is fitting that 2013s Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues pulls from the comedic well of stereotypes; they are easy, they don't require a whole lot of thought and they are safe. The stereotypes in Anchorman 2 range from lazily written material as much as what the film is itself-an uninspired stereotype of the original (Ron Burgundy was a sexist in the original? Let's make him a racist in this!).
If it isn't stereotyping some form of stigma or minority before your eyes, then the film becomes a sad imitation of what was funny back in 2004s original. Many of the jokes during the newscast are more miss than hit but the ones that work are actually very funny, irrelevant and inspired.
It just takes so long to get to the good stuff. Clocking in at almost 2 hours (!), the film is as bloated as the size of Ron Burgundy's ego, and, just like what happens in the film (and the original), it needs to get in check.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues doesn't do anything the first film couldn't (except costs twice as much to make) and just feels like someone forgot to turn off the television. There is good stuff in this broadcast, it just takes too long to get through the program to really care.
