Review of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013) by Jeremy'n'jessica B — 23 Apr 2016
Although this film might not be, "quite as quotable," Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, received almost a ten percent higher rating on the Tomatometer. A current trend shows that audiences are becoming more desensitized to crude humor which could be the reason for an even higher interest in a sequel for an already classic comedy.
In the article "Parental Desensitization to Violence and Sex in Movies." Daniel Romer, Patrick E. Jameison, and Brad J. Bushman found conclusive data to prove that parent's exposure to violence and sexuality in movies leads them to expose their kids to similar films at younger ages than they themselves would have been. 1000 parents with at least one child between the ages of 6 and 17 were studied. "The results support the operation of a very basic reduction in emotional response produced by repeated exposures" (Romer, Jameison, and Bushman).
Kimberly M. Thompson and Fumie Yokota, authors of, "Violence, Sex, and Profanity in Films: Correlation of Movie Ratings with Content," state, "we found significantly higher gross revenues for PG-13 and R-rated films when comparing films that received an MPAA rating reason for violence compared with those films that did not" Although this information is given in regards to violence, it is true for each category within films. Sex, language, even drug and alcohol use.
This desire for more objectionable content by movie goers is what helped propel the ratings for Anchorman 2.
