Review of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013) by Matt G — 04 Feb 2015
Anchorman 2 takes things to a whole other level. In the midst of Will Ferrells dying career comes this movie that will definitely shake things up. This film is similiar to the original in the way that it is completely unstructured with many random scenes and clever use of archive footage.
The cast again does an incredible job with each supporting character seeming to add more to the overall story rather than just stand by like in the first. Steve Carrell again is the highlight of the film, his clever and incredibly hilarious one liners and dialogue is true genius and works well in adding a little more to both the film's comedy, heart and duration, all of which is good.
The story again is very straight forward and not entirely intelligent or layered but the film and its cast takes full grasp of it to show off its hats of tricks. The pacing again is very well done, and thankfully does not have many incredibly long scenes like the first.
Anchorman 2 looks more beautiful, and has a lot more in it to satisfy more than the casual viewer. Its clever use of cameos add just the right amount of comedy to get past the sometimes forced dialogue.
While it does have more character development it doesn't get caught up in trying to do portray each character and their relationships each as a sub-plot but more as a part of the overall story. The ending scenes are completely silly and may have gone to far in creating an unstructured story, but they work because the cast makes it work, showing that a film does not need an intelligent complex plot to please.
